In World War II the British and Americans agreed to keep a constant stream of war material moving through arctic waters for the Soviets to use against the Germans. The men who boarded slow rusty ships to take part in the convoys had little or no idea what awaited them. In this hour long special from the BBC with Jeremy Clarkson, they recount the ill-fated convoy marked PQ-17 and why July 4 in remembered in the merchant marine as a sad and terrible day.
